I began my formal art training with Studio Arts foundation at Langara College in Vancouver, BC. After two years of award winning work in printmaking, drawing and sculpture, I entered the BFA program at Concordia University, in Montreal (double major sculpture and photography). During my four years at Concordia I began developing a critical and investigative art practice exploring ideas relating to the construction of identity through labour, action and space; questioning how professional roles and the spaces in which we perform them affect how we are perceived by others and ourselves. These investigations took form through, sculpture, video, photography and performance. Upon graduating from Concordia with distinction, I began the MFA program at the University of Victoria, on Vancouver Island. During my MFA I spent a great deal of time exploring similar concepts and ideas. In my final year at UVic I began working on constructing theatrical flats as domestic architectural and social stereotypes and introducing them into the landscape. It is this body of work along with related projects that I continue to work on while I reside in Victoria. As one of Canada’s most desired locales, Victoria provides a first hand view of urban sprawl and romantic Canadian landscapes ripe for exploring domestic dreams and desires.
